The Proper Golf Club Grip

"If a lot of people gripped a knife and fork the way they do a golf club, they’d starve to death." Slammin’ Sammy Snead.

 The Proper Golf Grip

Inspect your grips so they are not too small or slippery which would make you hold on much too tight.  Make sure it’s not too worn.

There is no proper grip. The proper grip is the grip that works best for you. But there are certain basic styles and methods that fit well for many players and pros of which you should be aware.

Grips vary among players but the basics are to grip the club with the left hand and put your thumb along the shaft of the club. Visualizing an imaginary line between your thumb and index finger, it should be pointing toward your right eye. Wrap your right hand over your left hand with your left thumb inside your right palm. This is the basic grip.

Gripping a club too tight with the right hand often causes the ball to hook towards the left. But the opposite is true with a slice. Too weak a grip creates an open club face causing your ball to slice to the right. Practice at a golf driving range by making small adjustment to your grip. A small adjustment to your grip can make a big difference and is one of the most common ways to correct a slice.

Hand placement on the club guides the ball and the wrist movement in the swing is the power of the game.
Your hand should be place in equal formation with the bottom hand as the stronger hand. If you are right handed, the bottom hand is the strong  trailing hand.

Again, if you grip the club too tight it will cause the ball to slice. A light grip makes for easier wrist and you will begin to the feel your arms and hands become more relaxed. By gripping more in the fingers than the palms of your hand you will notice more of an increase in your wrist movement and that can result in longer shots. One common mistake with golfers is that they place the club more in the lead hand palm than the do in the fingers. With such a technique the drive lacks power and the ball will slice.

Keep your head down while putting

When you lift your head you focus too much on the result rather than the
ball. When standing over your putt keep your eye on the ball and form
the mental image of the path to the hole.

Putting

A 3 degree opening or closing of a putter blade is almost impossible
for the naked eye to detect!

If your Putter is 1 degrees off line from 5-ft your putt will be
1 " off center.

If your Putter is 1 degrees off line from 10-ft your putt will
be 2 " off center.

If your Putter is 1 degrees off line from 20-ft your putt will
be 4 " off center.

If your Putter is 3 degrees off line from 5-ft your putt will be
3 " off center.

If your Putter is 3 degrees off line from 10-ft your putt will
be 6" off center.

If your Putter is 3 degrees off line from 20-ft your putt will
be 12" off center.

The Golf Swing - Beginners Golf Tips

After you learn how to swing correctly your body will correctly memorize it. Now that you’ve taught yourself the best techniques, you’ll need to unclutter your mind so as not to think through the actions. And you have to believe that this perfect swing of yours is your customary "A game" swing. Perhaps by visualizing it in detail and remembering how it felt and playing it out keeps you in that groove. Mentally play it out in your head and get that feeling before you do the deed.

Golf Tips to Increase Distance Shots

Most the tips you’ve read about in magazines don’t mean much until you improve you physical limitations. Don’t skip the warm-up prior to the first tee. There is no secret. You’ve have to warm up using twists, arm circles, toe touches … stretches to keep you loose. The backswing/shoulder stretch gets you ready to take the full backswing that the Tiger takes. Pull your upper body all the way in your backswing and hold it for 15 seconds and repeat a few times. Do it every hole.

Off course, improve your core strength and rotational speed using weights and many repetitions. Rotating side to side with your upper body holding a single dumbbell in front of you will strengthen and improve flexibility.

Beginning Golf – Choosing Your Clubs

Buying golf clubs is, in a lot of ways, like buying a car. Since it can be an expensive investment, try renting them first. Always consider buying hybrid clone clubs. They deliver the same performance as name brands but at considerable savings.Buying new golf clubs are an exciting expensive investment so you’ll want some experience playing the game before you take the plunge. But what you really want, most importantly, is to get clubs that fit you well.

Critical to the performance of any golf club is that the clubs FIT with the person who is playing them. Proper fitting is the single most important factor influencing performance. As one plays more, preferences and style of club features grow more exact.

WoodsA typical golfer's bag will have a driver (called 1-wood) and a few fairway woods (3- and/or 5-wood). A driver is the longest club (usually 45 inches long). Because of the longer length it is the toughest to control during a swing. The important skill to develop is to place each shot where you want it comes with time and experience. If you hit the ball far and it’s in the rough and you can't find it you’re out of luck. Most golfers average only about 10 shots with a driver in an 18-hole round. Accuracy is far more important than distance.

Irons are categorized as long (1, 2, 3,4), mid- (5,6,7) and short (8,9). Short irons are the easiest to hit while the long handled ones are the hardest. The shorter the iron, the more loft. For beginners, the more loft, the better.

Hybrid golf clubs are the hottest clubs in golf today. Giga Golf has a hot selling set of irons in the last 60 days. It’s their new Power Max Revelation hybrid set.

Check out these clubs. They offer a seemless progression of 4 iron technologies to create a set with forgiveness and playablity from the wedges to the long irons.

The pros use hybrids as well as name brands. Custom build your clubs for less than you would spend on name brand clubs. They use the same design principles, materials, shafts and grips as the name brands and they perform as well if not better
